WOMEN SINGERS ARE SHOWING THEIR BREASTS

For several months, many Spanish singers have used their breasts as a symbol to defend the rights of women and minorities in Spain.

A symbolic gesture for the freedom of women. While performing at the Sonorama Ribera festival in Burgos on August 12, on the occasion of her 25-year career, Spanish singer Eva Amaral (above pictured) removed part of her dress to reveal her breasts.

This act, deemed "spectacular and "very symbolic" by the Spanish newspaper El País, actually hides a feminist message in support of Spanish artists who are victims of sexist attacks and frequently censored for their positions.

"For Rocío Saiz. For Rigoberta. For Zahara. For Miren. For Bebe. For all of us. Because no one can rob us of the dignity of our nudity. The dignity of our fragility, of our strength," Eva Amaral said on stage.

"Because there are too many of us. And they won't be able to take away the life we want. A world where the fear of saying what we think will no longer exist. Because today is the 'hour of the revolution', she added before singing her song Revolución to the applause of the public Sexist reviews and censored concerts.

With her gesture, which aroused very divided reactions and reopened the debate on the body of women in the public space in Spain, Eva Amaral also wanted to pay tribute to the artists Rocío Saiz, Rigoberta Bandini and Zahara, victims of criticism after having unveiled their chest in concert.

Victim of sexist criticism, Rigoberta Bandini (pictured above) is used to showing her breasts on stage when she performs the song Ay mamá, a clear feminist plea that pays homage to motherhood and breastfeeding.

Last June, Rocío Saiz's Pride concert in Murcia (pictured above) was also interrupted by the police when the artist took off her t-shirt to reveal her chest as a feminist message.

"People who think the message is that someone takes their shirt off and shows their boobs don't get it. What we're trying to say is that we don't have the right to be in control of our body," Rocío Saiz told Euronews in reaction to Eva Amaral's gesture.

The singer Zahara has been criticized by the Spanish conservative fringe for the cover of her album Puta (2021), on which she appears dressed as the Virgin Mary. Accused of religious offense, the artist saw the poster of her concert in Toledo censored due to a petition by the far-right Vox party.
