Germany Spain
A goal from Schuller in the final moments gave Germany a draw against Spain in the Arnold Clark Cup (1-1) and put an end to an impressive winning streak for 'La Roja', who had won all their matches since March 8 of 2020 without conceding any goals against.
Up to now, there have been five clashes between the two teams without Spain ever being victorious. And perhaps those precedents made the squad currently led by Jorge Vilda come out colder than the opponent, who despite arriving tremendously depleted by casualties, generated danger in transitions and through his wingers.
Thus, Brand was the first to test Paños with a hit from the right side. In the other band, it was Bruhl who had it, although his shot went wide. Added to that discomfort for 'La Roja' was Mariona Caldentey's injury, who was substituted halfway through the first half.
Her position was occupied by Lucía García and she helped the team to be more vertical. In fact, his were the two clearest opportunities in the initial forty-five minutes, a shot at will that he sent wide and an impact with effect from the edge that grazed the post. The break came and after it, the match was completely tilted in favor of the Spanish. This was helped by an early goal from Alexia Putellas, who beat the goalkeeper with a Vaseline after an error in Oberdorf's clearance.
The confidence of getting ahead did not bring more approaches, although Bonmatí missed with everything in his favor to make it 0-2. What it did generate is that Spain took control of the possession against a team that showed signs of impotence in its eagerness to recover the ball.
Despite this, the quality of the Germans made them always remain present in the confrontation. What's more, Magull had the equalizer on his feet with a point-blank shot to which Paños responded in an outstanding way. Clara was also, in the other area, the one that Lucía García had, who ran into the crossbar after Frohms touched her.
Everything was in sight for Spain to continue feeding their impressive figures and finally beat a rival that had been elusive to date, but when the match was coming to an end, Schuller captured a ball inside the area and defined with cold blood. The European Championship, where both teams will meet again in the group stage, will open a new door to break the spell.
